Salem Square
Welcome to a wonderful port in its golden age of trade. Based on the city of Salem, Massachusetts in the early 1800's, this is where you can take part in many activities. Plus, there are some supernatural surprises in store, but we'll talk about that later.
When you first cross over from Castle Gardens, you enter into the docks. Salem Village Tavern is on the right and Traveling Traders is on the left. In a market building nearby is where you can find China Voyager and Spice Road, which sells Chinese and Arabian food. It also links to Voyager's Collectibles. To the right of that building is Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe. Further down the line are shops and restaurants such as William's Stuff, Hocus Pocus Halloween Shop, Photo Parlor, Witchhunters Pub, Old Timer's Cafe, and Candy Cauldron.
In a building south from the one where China Voyager and Spice Road are is a theater where Pocahontas: Colors of the Wind, a musical production of the film. Also nearby is a 19th Century trade ship called the S.S. Virginia, which you can explore. In a small building south from the theater where Pocahontas plays is a Salem Witch Trials-era courthouse where you can buy merchandise. This gift shop is known as Witchcraft Wear.
Out of town in a woodsy area is where you can find three things. Native Village Challenge Trail is where you can explore Native American huts and other things. Nearby that is the Haunted Mansion, the area's key attraction. This version of the ride is housed in a 1700's red-brick Georgian manor with three stories and chimneys peeking out over the rooftop. Grim Grinning Ghost Gear sells Haunted Mansion-themed merchandise and is found to the right of the mansion.

This was a little bit of a hard area to conceive. All I knew is that I wanted the Haunted Mansion to be featured in its own area, which led me to think of Salem and its diverse history with the 1692 witch trials and its huge trading age in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. However, I did not know much of what I was getting into. I found it hard to theme this whole area to the place and period that I picked out, but luckily I did it. I'm just thinking how this will be the hotspot area during Halloween time with the Sanderson Sisters and things from Hocus Pocus.

I love the switch up for the Haunted Mansion with the red brick manor. And of course I really like the Hocus Pocus tie in as well. I agree with you that this will be a happening spot for the Halloween season. I think it’s cool with like the exploration of the ship and things you can learn a bit about history. I’d enjoy seeing some small placques around the area with historical information dating back to that time period. I’d bet most people don’t know much about it.
