Main Street U.S.A.

Welcome, welcome, guests of all ages, to the opening curtains of this park. Inspired by a charming American town at the turn of the 20th Century, here is where you will find entertainment, dining, and shopping like no other. This pays tribute to Walt Disney's childhood home of Marceline, Missouri, along with other towns of that era.

Once you pass through the main gates, you will see the station where the Disneyland Railroad departs, heading to the station in Fantasyland. You can get around in one of two tunnels that advertise the attractions in the park. You enter into a town square with a small park in the middle of it. Here is where you can meet Disney characters at select times. To the left of the park is City Hall, where you can get help and services. To the right of the park is the Disneyland Theater, where you can watch The Golden Mickeys. You can get in the station in from in front of the park while the street goes behind the park. Next to City Hall is the firehouse, where you can sign up for Disneyland Defenders, a park-spanning adventure similar to Disney World's Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, where you cast spells and battle Disney Villains across the park. Near the theater is where parades usually end or begin, with the street spanning as one of the places that the parades pass through.

Down the street are several shops and restaurants. Near the park is the largest shop in Grand Disneyland, the Emporium, while Carnation Cafe is across the street. Further down is Main Street Confections, Disney Clothing Store, Trader Mickey's, Goofy Toy Store, and Main Street Deli on the right and Walt's, an American Restaurant, Jolly Jewelry, Dapper Dan's Barber Shop, and Pluto's Pet Supplies on the left. You can ride the Omnibus or the Horse-Drawn Streetcars up the street as well.

At the end of the street, rather than a hub like traditional Disney Parks, you have a circular plaza. In the center is a small garden area where the "Partners" statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse stands. On the left side is Plaza Inn, The Disney Gallery, where you can see collections of concept art from Disney, and the Great American Waffle Company. on the right is Pin Traders, the Main Street Cinema, where you can watch old Mickey Mouse cartoons, and Plaza Ice Cream Shop. From here, you cross a bridge over to Castle Gardens. The Dapper Dans and Marching Band perform around here from time to time.

Why, no Magic Kingdom-style park is complete without a Main Street or some other form of it, so I chose to put one in. I also decided to use numbers this time instead of bullet points because my mom requested that I labeled the map. This makes it easier for her to understand what she can find and where it is. She also keeps asking me what an omnibus is, so I have a picture of one above. The buildings all have names of people who helped work on the park, a common thread of a lot of Disney Parks. The Golden Mickeys is a modified version of the show that the Disney Cruise Line puts on, actually giving away nominees and presenting awards, including "best song," "best hero," and "best villain."

  1. I love the layout of this blog. It’s definitely going to help me picture it better by being able to follow along with the maps. Say......where are those maps? I better go find them!
